Ed Orgeron LSU

Ed Orgeron has a  65-44 record in 10 seasons as a college head coach. Orgeron is 49-17 in seven years at LSU. Miami football fans love coaches with connections to the Hurricanes. Orgeron was the defensive line coach for the Miami football program in 1988 under Jimmy Johnson and from 1989-1992 under Dennis Erickson.

Miami won national titles in 1989 and 1991 with Orgeron on the staff. Orgeron helped the Hurricanes produce eight defensive linemen who were selected in the NFL Draft in the five seasons he was on the Miami football staff. That included Cortez Kennedy and Russell Maryland who were top-five draft picks.

Orgeron was first a head coach at Mississippi from 2005-2007. The Rebels had a 10-25 record during the Orgeron era. LSU will pay Orgeron the remaining $16.95 million remaining on his contract. Orgeron signed a six-year contract with LSU in 2020 January 2020 following the Tigers championship run.

LSU will pay Orgeron in installments through December 2025. Orgeron is the second-highest-paid coach in college football behind Nick Saban of Alabama at about $9 million per year. Miami cannot come close to matching that salary. There is no indication how the Orgeron buyout would be affected if he’s hired by another program.
