Major Applewhite

Major Applewhite as the offensive coordinator and then head coach for the first three seasons King was at Houston.

Applewhite was the head coach in 2017 and 2018 in the two full seasons that King was the starting QB for the Cougars. Houston was 15-11 in two full seasons plus a bowl game with Applewhite as head coach.

Applewhite was nearly hired by Miami in January  2019 when Diaz replaced nearly the entire offensive staff of Mark Richt. Miami went with then Alabama QB coach Dan Enos who failed miserably as the Miami Hurricanes offensive coordinator. Applewhite wound up as an offensive analyst for two seasons at Alabama.

Applewhite was also the offensive at Alabama during Nick Saban’s first season in 2007. With Applewhite in charge of the Houston offense, King accomplished the majority of his 61.8 percent completions, 4,925 yards, 50 TDs, 10 interceptions and 1,421 rushing yards and 28 touchdowns.

Applewhite is currently in his first season as the offensive coordinator at South Alabama. In his last year at Houston with King at QB in 2018, Houston finished seventh nationally in total offense and fifth in scoring. Miami Hurricanes offensive tackle Jarrid Williams also played for Applewhite at Houston.
