Tom Herman

Herman was regarded as one of the best offensive minds dating to his stint as the offensive coordinator at Ohio State from 2012 through 2014.

After being fired by Texas following the 2020 season, Herman has been an offensive analyst for the Chicago Bears this season. Herman has a Miami connection.

Prior to his four-year stint at Texas, Herman was the head coach at Texas for two seasons. Herman recruited  Williams and King to Houston before they transferred to Miami prior to the 2020 season. Diaz or the new head coach would be able to discuss Herman with King and Williams.

Herman was the offensive coordinator for Ohio State in 2014 when the Buckeyes won the National Championship with third-team QB Cardale Jones. As a result of keeping the Buckeyes offensive potent without their top two QBs, Herman earned the Broyles Award as the top assistant coach in college football.

Herman was hired by Houston for the 2015 season. In his first season, Herman led Houston to a 13-1 record, the American Athletic Conference title and a Peach Bowl victory over Florida State. Houston went 9-3 in Herman’s second season. The Cougars had wins over Louisville and Oklahoma who were both ranked third at the time.

Herman led Houston to undefeated records at home, against ranked teams and Power Five teams in his two seasons. Applewhite replaced Herman when he left for Texas following the 2016 season. Texas finished 7-6 in the first season under Herman before improving to 10-4. Herman was fired with a 32-18 overall record at Texas.
