Five 2022 Miami football games were named among the 100 best for the upcoming season by 247 Sports. The September 17 game at Texas A&M and at Clemson on November 19 are the marquee games on the Miami schedule that have been discussed throughout the entire offseason.
The other three games named by 247 Sports are surprising on some level. Pittsburgh at Miami on November 26 was the 69th ranked game in 2022, North Carolina at Miami on October 8 is the 79th best game and Miami at Virginia Tech on October 15 is 89th. The games versus UNC and Pitt could decide the ACC Coastal Division title.
Miami at Clemson was 24th and the Hurricanes’ game at Texas A&M is 20th. Noticeably missing from the top 100 games was Florida State at Miami on November 5. The four-game Miami winning streak against Florida State ended last season in Tallahassee. Mario Cristobal will surely emphasize the game against the Seminoles.
ESPN ranked Texas A&M fifth, Clemson 12th and Pittsburgh 15th in their “College football rankings: Updated Way-Too-Early Top 25″ posted last week. How Miami performs against those teams will be a barometer to how quickly the Hurricanes have improved with Cristobal as head coach.
Miami leads the all-time series with Texas A&M 2-1. Clemson has won three in a row against Miami and holds a 5-2 advantage since the Hurricanes joined the ACC in 2004. The Hurricanes and Tigers are tied at six all-time in their series. Miami has won four in a row and six of the last seven against Pittsburgh,
The Hurricanes lead the all-time series with the Panthers 29-11-1. Miami has won two in a row and four of the last five against Virginia Tech. The Hurricanes lead the all-time series with the Hokies 24-15-0. Clemson and Texas A&M will be the 2022 Miami games that garner national attention.
ESPN Gameday could be in College Station and Clemson when Miami travels to play the Aggies and Tigers. Miami needs to created positive attention nationally after Gameday roasted Miami over a disconnect throughout the football program and athletic department. Miami’s offseason changes should chance the culture.
