The Miami Hurricanes basketball team had its most complete game of the season dominating Duke in an 81-59 victory at the Watsco Center on Monday night. Miami never trailed and the game was only tied for 39 seconds. Miami is a winner having to replace both coordinators according to one national college football analyst.

After firing offensive coordinator Josh Gattis last month and losing defensive coordinator Kevin Steele to Alabama on Sunday Brandon Marcello of 247 Sports stated “By losing both coordinators, Mario Cristobal and Miami come out winners.Miami has reportedly had at least two interviews to replace Gattis.

Former college and NFL OC Doug Nussmeier was reportedly interviewed last week followed by Toledo head coach Jason Candle. Mario Cristobal usually takes a methodical approach to hiring assistant coaches. Expect Cristobal to hire both of his coordinators before Miami begins spring practice on March 4.

In his postgame interview with ESPN, Miami Hurricanes forward Jordan Miller twice credited the Hurricanes crowd for setting the tone. Miami took a 13-1 lead to begin the game. The Hurricanes were never tied or trailed once they took the lead. Duke never got closer than eight for the remainder of the game.

The Miami basketball team rose in the Associated Press Top 25 and USA Today Coaches Polls for the first time in five weeks. Miami rose from 23rd to 19th in the AP Top 25 and from 21st to 20th in the USA Today Coaches Poll. If Miami defeats Louisville as expected on Saturday the Hurricanes should rise in the polls next week too.

Also on Monday, former Miami Hurricanes center Jakai Clark announced he is transferring to Southern Methodist. Clark is the sixth former Miami football player to join 2020 and 2021 Hurricanes’ offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee at SMU. Lashlee is now the Mustangs’ head coach.

Miami was 39th in the NCAA net ratings entering play on Monday. After the win over Duke on Monday the Hurricanes should move up. Miami earned their sixth quad-one win this season versus four losses. The Hurricanes finish the season with four of its last six games at home.
