The Miami Hurricanes football program received a commitment from three-star 2024 offensive lineman Deryc Plazz on Friday over North Carolina State. Five-star 2025 tight end Davon Mitchell is announcing his commitment on Saturday. Miami was named in the top five teams poised for a big 2023 leap.
The Miami Hurricanes football program is 20th in the 247 Sports composite rankings after the commitment from Plazz. Plazz is the 1,030th prospect, 79th offensive tackle and 137th player in Florida out of Jacksonville Mandarin in the 2024 class. Miami now had 16 commitments in the 2024 class.
Oklahoma is trending for a commitment from Mitchell on Saturday. Both 247 Sports crystal balls project Mitchell to commit to Oklahoma. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine projects Oklahoma with a 95.0 percent chance for a commitment from Mitchell. Miami is a long shot, but still in the Mitchell recruitment per reports.
John Garcia Jr. the Rivals.com National Recruiting Analyst wrote on Friday that Plazz chose Miami for the opportunity to learn from head coach Mario Cristobal and OL coach Alex Mirabal. Plazz has good relationships with a few people at North Carolina State while he has good relationships with everyone at Miami.
Jesse Simonton of On3 wrote that there are “Five programs poised for leap seasons in 2023, headlined by Texas A&M and Miami.” Simonton discussed the turnover on the Miami coaching staff and roster entering the 2023 season, the return of safeties Kamren Kinchens and James Williams and the schedule.
Chance Linton of 247 Sports wrote on Friday that “Marquise Lightfoot to Miami headlines this week’s ACC commits.” Lightfoot committed to Miami on Monday and the four-star edge rusher is the highest-ranked commit in the 2024 Hurricanes’ class. Linton quoted recruiting summaries and scouting reports for Lightfoot.
