Miami football: Top 10 passers in Hurricanes history
While some of the most prolific skill-position players in the history of the NFL and the NCAA started out with the Miami football program, the quarterback position isn’t one in particular that stands out among the Hurricanes’ most notable contributions to the sport.
Nowhere in the top 140 will you find a passer from the U in all-time yardage.
With that said, though, Miami fans have seen heroic performances from leaders under center who will live on in South Florida.
Here are the top 10 passers in Miami football history
Miami football career passing leader No. 10: Kyle Wright
- 5,805 passing yards
- 38 passing touchdowns
- 31 interceptions
Kyle Wright’s career at the U never truly took off due to the injuries in his sophomore and junior seasons. Even the biggest game of his career, the 2005 Peach Bowl, was not one to remember: a sub-50% completion day to go along with no scores in a 40-3 loss to LSU.
Still, Wright was an Honorable Mention All-ACC selection in 2005 and led the Hurricanes to a nine-win campaign. Had he been there for more of the seasons that would follow, perhaps Miami would’ve won more than 12 games combined.
Ultimately, the number of interceptions Wright threw held him back from ever holding down a job in the NFL. He only had seven more touchdown passes than picks over his injury-riddled college career. Wright was present for the beginning of the Canes’ descent as a national power, though it’d be irresponsible to blame him in any way for it.
