The 2024 Miami football class rose from 18th to 16th after flipping four-star edge rusher Elias Rudolph from Michigan on Saturday. Rudolph flipped from Michigan to the Miami football program after a commitment after several recruiting analysts made the projections from the Wolverines to the Hurricanes prior on Saturday.

Rudolph is the 292nd prospect, 21st edge rusher and 40th recruit in Florida in 2024. Miami has three blue-chip commits in the 2024 class including Rudolph. Edge rusher Marquise Lightfoot and defensive lineman Artavius Jones previously committed to the 2024 Miami class. Rudolph is the seventh-highest 2024 Miami commit.

Defensive line coach Jason Taylor gets credit for being the primary recruiter on Lightfoot and Rudolph. In a few months as a full-time assistant, Taylor has made a big impact in recruiting for the Miami football program. Miami is building an elite defensive line with the players signed in the 2023 class and the 2024 commits.

At 6’4 and 205 pounds, Rudolph will need time to fill out once he enrolls in a college conditioning program. According to David Wilson of the Miami Herald, Rudolph had 87 tackles and 17 1/2 sacks last year. Miami was able to flip Rudolph by being persistent following his Michigan commitment per multi sources.

Frank Tucker, the Canes County Recruiting Analyst reported that Rudolph is expected to play the hybrid edge rusher/linebacker JACK position in the new Miami defense under defensive coordinator Lance Guidry. Guidry stated earlier this month that the JACK position will often drop into pass coverage.

Rudolph took official visits to Miami, Michigan and Pittsburgh in June. Cincinnati, Florida State, Kentucky, Ohio State, Penn State and Tennessee received unofficial visits from Rudolph. The Miami cookout in July that was attended by Rudolph reportedly turned his recruitment towards the Hurricanes.

With the commitment from Rudolph, Miami now has 20 commits in the 2023 class. Also included on the defensive line is three-star commit Daylen Russell. Expect Miami to continue seeking versatile DL to play in the Guidry system. More commits could come later this month for Miami.
