Following Thursday's breaking news, everyone is on Carson Beck watch. That's right, the stud quarterback has entered the transfer portal and the Miami Hurricanes are ready to make a run at trying to land him. Will Mario Cristobal get the job done?
On paper, Beck signing with the Canes makes all the sense in the world. He could step in for Cam Ward, projected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft, and help Miami push for an ACC title and a trip to the College Football Playoff.
However, while Miami is considered the favorite to make this happen, other schools are ready to go all-in to sign Beck too. Already, several programs have emerged as contenders to ink Beck, but these three should make Miami fans the most worried:
3. North Carolina Tar Heels
This is certainly the dark horse in the race, but don't sleep on the North Carolina Tar Heels. The reason UNC should be considered a contender is obvious. Yes, we're talking about the one and only Bill Belichick.
Rumors flew that Belichick could return to the NFL, but his camp silenced the talk and made it clear he's locked in with the Heels. Could Belichick sell Beck on the opportunity to play for one of the greatest coaches ever for his final college campaign? He'd 100 percent give him something to think about.
2. Texas Tech Red Raiders
When On3's Pete Nakos originally reported that Texas Tech was going to be in the mix for Beck, we were a bit surprised. However, the Red Raiders could be looking for a new starter in 2025 due to Behren Morton undergoing shoulder surgery. His status for the start of next campaign is a bit up in the air. Enter Beck? We think it's a long shot that he lands there, but where there's smoke, there's usually fire. If Nakos thinks TTU is a player here, then they'll be a team to watch.
1. Ohio State Buckeyes
Ryan Day and Co. might be rival No. 1 for Miami when it comes to Beck. Ohio State is on a dream run thus far in the College Football Playoff and the Buckeyes are the favorites to win the National Championship Game. Beck is obviously paying attention to that.
Nakos reported that OSU, Miami and Texas Tech were going to be the main teams in play for Beck. Should the Buckeyes go on to win it all, that could swing things in their favor. Signal-caller Will Howard has been great in the playoff, but he's in his last year of eligibility. Day will need a new QB1 for 2025, which is where Beck would come in handy for him. Watch out for OSU here.
