The Miami Hurricanes are enjoying a bye week and some much-needed time off to get healthy before the next stretch of the season. But Mario Cristobal never rests, and the coaching staff will take a few shots of cafecito and likely hit the road to check out some of the top commitments and other targets.

In-season recruiting is a frantic time and one of the benefits the Hurricanes staff has is being located in a talent-rich area for football, but Miami also has commitments in California, South Carolina and Illinois among other states and top targets around the country. Miami coaches will be around the country to check out recruits and observe prospects that need to be evaluated this week. Here are a few recruiting storylines to look for:

Is Miami still in hot pursuit of 5-star EDGE DJ Jacobs?

This is kind of a loaded question because I don't think the Hurricanes are completely out of the picture for DJ Jacobs, but there also doesn't seem to be any momentum in Miami's direction. Jacobs is still committed to Ohio State, and he seems to be entertaining Tennessee more and more as a potential flip option.

Miami has a commitment from Jaiden Bryant, another five-star edge, and there are plenty of young pass-rushers in the program, so it could be a situation where Cristobal has to put resources into another position. You can never say never when it comes to Miami and recruiting, so the door is still cracked. We'll see if Cristobal tries to open it all the way.

Can Miami get back to the top for 5-stars Brysen Wright and Asher Ghioto?

The Hurricanes have made 5-star wide receiver Brysen Wright and 5-star edge rusher Asher Ghioto two of their most-coveted targets in the 2028 class. Both prospects are expected to be at Hard Rock Stadium on Oct. 17 for the FSU game, and it's highly likely at least a couple of Hurricane staffers will be in Jacksonville to watch Ghioto at Bolles School and Wright at Mandarin High School this week.

Florida has come on strong for both players and the Gators are probably the biggest competition, but Georgia and Texas A&M are also trending for Ghioto, while Texas and Ohio State have gotten Wright's attention. It promises to be an intense recruiting battle for both players.

Will any additional late risers in 2027 catch Miami's eye?

Miami's 2027 class is pretty full, but there's always room for a few more, especially if Cristobal decides that it's necessary. FSU commit Za'Kari Johnson isn't likely to stay in the Seminoles' class, and he's been to a few Hurricanes games this season. It seems like Miami is slow playing him for now, but that might pick up in the second half of the season.

And then there are some other local or in-state prospects that could emerge late. With the staff finally having an opportunity to watch some high school games this week, expect the 2028 and 2029 recruiting boards to have new names, but don't be surprised if a 2027 recruit comes to the surface as well.
