Four-star linebacker JaMichael Garrett has officially decommitted from Auburn and will visit the Miami Hurricanes this weekend. The Central High School (Central, La.) prospect confirmed he decommitted on Thursday to On3 and CanesInSight reported he plans to visit Miami.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound linebacker, ranked No. 263 overall and No. 18 at his position in the 2026 class by On3, originally pledged to Auburn on July 27, 2024. His verbal commitment to the Tigers ended his home-state recruitment in favor of Hugh Freeze's program. Garrett is also listed by 247Sports as the No. 8 linebacker nationwide and among the top 10 recruits in Louisiana.
Garrett signaled in April that his commitment to Auburn wasn’t final, saying, “Auburn is still the school I am committed to, but I am looking at my options and I will take visits,” and added, “I want to give some of these great schools a chance since they are recruiting me so hard”.
After skipping summer visits to Auburn, Garrett participated in an official visit to Ole Miss on May 30, where staff made a strong impression. He is now set to take official visits to Miami on June 13 and Texas A&M on June 20. Garrett’s decommitment leaves Auburn with seven commits for 2026, including only one at linebacker — four-star Shadarius Toodle of Cottage Hill Christian Academy in Mobile, Ala. For Central High, Garrett recorded 91 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and one interception during his junior season.
His upcoming official visit to Miami on June 13 offers the Hurricanes a high-stakes opportunity to compete for one of the nation’s top linebackers. With his recruitment now open — no commitment binding — Miami has a shot. Whether Hurricanes staff can sell their program remains to be seen but regardless of the outcome, Garrett will hope to shape the future defense for whichever program lands him.
