The University of Miami has secured a commitment from four-star cornerback Kenton Dopson III, a standout from Miami Norland High School. Dopson, standing at 6 feet 1 inches and weighing 185 pounds, is ranked as the No. 1 cornerback in Florida, is a top-15 player in the country, and holds the distinction of being the second-ranked cornerback nationally in the 2027 class.
Dopson chose Miami over offers from several prominent programs, including Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Louisville, and Syracuse. His decision was heavily influenced by his deep-rooted connection to the area and the university. "It doesn't get any better than this," Dopson said. "They treat me like I'm already home."

Dopson was a part of the unofficial visitors for week one of spring practice. During the recent visit to Miami, Dopson was impressed by the intensity and competitiveness displayed, particularly by defensive back coaches Will Harris and Zac Etheridge (his main recruitors). "Practice was great; the intensity was there," Dopson said. "The intensity level was different. They were at each other's necks. They were competing at a high level."
Dopson plans to return to Miami for its spring game. His commitment marks a significant addition to Miami's 2027 recruiting class, joining wide receiver Ah'mari Stevens as the early commits. Stevens is from Fort Lauderdale, FL and attends American Heritage. In his sophomore season, Dopson recorded 16 total tackles (12 solo), three interceptions, 16 passes defended and a sack. He also recently just set a Norland school record for the 200 meter.
Dopson's commitment reflects Miami's ongoing efforts to retain top local talent and strengthen its defensive lineup for the future. For Cristobal, recruiting south Florida is one of the most important tasks for the program. As of right now the Hurricanes have five hard commits in the 2026 class from Ben Congdon, Dereon Coleman, Jaelen Waters, Camdin Portis and Jordan Campbell.
