Just when you thought things couldn't get any worse for the Miami Hurricanes basketball program, the major breaking news from this week sunk things lower. In case you somehow missed it, 4-star center Ben Ahmed is no longer Miami-bound.
A 4-star center and a Top 75 prospect nationally, Ahmed was asked to be released from his commitment to play for the Canes next season. Instead, he has opened up his recruitment, free to sign with anyone he wants. With Jim Larranaga retiring, people were expecting Ahmed to eventually change his mind.
Now that he's looking for a new home, the 2025 prospect is starting to hear from plenty of schools. According to League Ready's Sam Kayser, Ahmed has been in touch with Ole Miss, Butler, Oklahoma State, Penn State and Boston College. Keep in mind that he just opened things back up on Thursday:

It shouldn't be a surprise that Ahmed is starting to hear from these other programs so quickly. He was the jewel for Miami's 2025 haul, but again, a move to Coral Gables won't be in the cards for him. This is something that plenty of fans are going to be upset about for quite some time.
Ahmed is a big-time talent, checking in at 6-9, 300 pounds. At the time of his original signing with Miami, he chose the Canes over additional rides from California, Rutgers, Georgia Tech and a handful of others. According to the 247Sports Composite, he's the No. 15 center in the country and No. 2 recruit out of Connecticut.
Soon enough, he'll be ready to make his college decision for the second time, with those five programs being teams to watch moving forward. Could someone else jump in to try and sign him? There's surely plenty of time for that to happen, but we do know that his future won't be with Miami.
