Four-star offensive lineman Tommy Tofi has canceled his official visit to the University of Miami, initially slated for June 20, opting instead to visit BYU on that date. Tofi, a 6-foot-7, 350-pound standout from Archbishop Riordan High School in San Francisco, is ranked among the top interior offensive linemen in the 2026 class. He had previously visited Miami unofficially in March, expressing enthusiasm about the program and its coaching staff.
Miami had been actively recruiting Tofi, with head coach Mario Cristobal and offensive line coach Alex Mirabal leveraging their west coast connections to attract him. Tofi's unofficial visit to Miami on March 29 seemed to have gone well, but between that time and now, something must have changed. For the current visits, the furthest Tofi is traveling is to Tennessee and most of the schools are close to the west coast, so maybe the distance from home played a factor.
With Miami no longer on his official visit schedule, Tofi's upcoming visits include Cal on May 30, Oregon on June 8, Tennessee on June 12 and BYU on June 20.
Tofi is ranked as the No. 7 interior offensive lineman and No. 144 overall prospect in the 2026 class, according to On3. His size and athleticism have drawn comparisons to former Oregon lineman and current Detroit Lions offensive tackle Penei Sewell. Part of the connection to Miami was the fact that Cristobal and Mirabal coached Sewell at Oregon.
It is an unusual and unexpected recruiting loss for the Hurricanes after a successful string of commits in the 2026 cycle. It is unclear if Miami is still in the running but it appears as though the Hurricanes are out of the race. It is also unclear as to if any of the current OL commits may have scared Tofi away. Miami is putting together a strong offensive line class in 2026 and Tofi may have felt he was wanted more elsewhere.
