Mark Matthews, a 5-star offensive tackle from St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale, has scheduled an official visit to Miami for May 29. The trip offers Mario Cristobal and offensive line coach Alex Mirabal another major opportunity with a local blue-chip lineman who has become one of the defining recruits of the 2027 cycle.

Mark Matthews official visit gives Miami another shot to close top OT
Matthews is down to Georgia, LSU, Miami and Texas A&M. He is the No. 5 overall prospect and No. 1 offensive tackle in the 2027 Rivals Industry Ranking, and he is also the No. 1 recruit in Florida. He measures in at 6-foot-5 and 300 pounds.
Matthews plays at St. Thomas Aquinas, roughly 27 miles from Coral Gables. He initially was considering an earlier commitment, but now he is taking his time with more visits before his decision. Matthews made trips to each of his top four in the spring, so it seems like he'll take more official visits — outside of Miami — to the other three schools soon.
Texas A&M has pushed hard in the recruitment. Georgia and LSU are still in the final group, but it really does seem like the Hurricanes and the Aggies are leading the way.
St. Thomas Aquinas won Florida's 5A state title in 2024 with Matthews starting at left tackle. He then anchored the line again in 2025 as the Raiders won another state championship.
The Hurricanes already have two offensive line commitments in the 2027 class: 4-star offensive tackle Sean Tatum from Fort Pierce and offensive tackle Tyler Ford from Gainesville, Georgia. Miami has nine commitments overall in the class, which currently sits No. 15 nationally in the 247Sports team rankings.
The Hurricanes had nine players selected in the 2026 NFL Draft, their most since 2017. That group included first-round offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa and sixth-round offensive lineman Anez Cooper.
