5-star QB commit Israel Abrams puts the word out that Miami's 2027 class is coming

It's so easy to get hyped up about the 2027 Miami Hurricanes recruiting class that it needs to be restated that the 2026 season hasn't even happened yet!

But five-star quarterback Israel Abrams put up a graphic on IG that presumably includes his other five-star brethren -- wide receiver Nick Lennear, edge rusher Jaiden Bryant, defensive back Donte Wright and the newest addition, elite athlete A'mir Sears.

It's always hard to project what the future will bring in college football, especially today's college football. Most fans are usually excited about the top prospects in a class and throw lofty expectations on them long before they go through spring practice.

But Mario Cristobal and the Hurricanes staff have such a strong history of building through recruiting. We trust the scouting, the evaluations and the process in which they decide which targets to pursue. Fans are rightfully excited to see what Abrams, Sears, Wright, Bryant and Lennear are going to do in 2027 and beyond, but they are equally excited to see what three-star defensive back Andre Hyppolite does because Miami has such a great history with its local recruits.

"If you're a Miami fan, you should be excited and if you're in the ACC, you should be concerned," 247Sports' national recruiting analyst Andrew Ivins said after Sears' commitment Friday. 

Miami's 2023 recruiting class is still the standard under Cristobal

If there is a class to compare the 2027 group to, it will be Cristobal's class after his first full year in the program. That class featured two first-round NFL picks — offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa (5-stars) and defensive end Rueben Bain Jr. (four stars). 

Another five-star prospect from that class, offensive lineman Samson Okunlola, will be a key starter up front this year and Mark Fletcher Jr., another four-star prospect from that class, is the starting running back.

That class gave Miami a strong nucleus for what has become the Hurricanes' most successful stretch of football over the past 20 years. Cristobal has continued to build on that with a strong group in 2024 that looks like it's ready to take the next step forward behind defensive linemen Justin Scott, Marquise Lightfoot and Armando Blount — all blue-chip recruits and underrated prospects that hit like three-star defensive back OJ Frederique.

Wide receiver Malachi Toney and defensive back Bryce Fitzgerald have both already made the 2025 class a success, and now we'll wait and see what players from the 2026 group can contribute this season or set themselves up for major roles in the future. 

And we're speaking about the 2027 class like it's already done, but Cristobal and this staff are still hunting for more top-end talent, naming five-star edge rusher DJ Jacobs. Cristobal and GM Dennis Smith are committing a lot of resources to this class and that speaks to what they believe the upside will be when all these elite players come on campus together. 

Abrams clearly can't wait for the future to get here and neither can we.
