A'mir Sears' pledge gives Miami another 5-star brick in its powerhouse recruiting class

What was predicted has come to pass and A'mir Sears has committed to the Miami Hurricanes!

Sears, who was the top-rated overall prospect in the 2028 class before reclassifying, gives Miami its fifth recruit with a five-star rating in the class. A dynamic two-way player who could play wide receiver or in the secondary, Sears will play his final year of high school football at Christopher Columbus, the same school where Mario Cristobal played before becoming a Hurricane.

A'mir Sears commitment continues Miami's historic recruiting run

Sears is ranked as the 11th-best overall prospect in the country according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. He is the top-rated athlete in the 2027 class and No. 2 player in Florida. Sears chose Miami over Michigan, LSU and Texas A&M. 

"I just wanted to evaluate what was best for me," Sears said regarding his reclassification. "I talked with my Mom and Dad, and we decided the best thing for me was to move a class up."

Miami was the first program to offer Sears, doing so in the summer of 2024. His recruitment picked up significantly in January 2025 when Ohio State, Auburn, Penn State, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Louisville and a host of other programs offered in the month.

Sears gives the Hurricanes another big-time playmaker. If he ends up in the secondary, Sears and five-star defensive back commit Donte Wright become the top incoming duo in college football. But if Sears starts out at wide receiver, he'll give Miami a solid core of incoming young pass-catchers with five-star commit Nick Lennear and blue-chip receiver Eli Woodard. 

In two seasons of playing for West Broward High School, Sears had 1,443 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns. On defense he's recorded over 100 tackles and seven interceptions. 

The local flavor is strong in Miami's recruiting class

Sears' commitment continues Cristobal's quest to lock down top local recruits. Taking a page out of the "State of Miami" recruiting push that Howard Schellenberger made nearly 50 years ago, Cristobal has successfully kept other top programs away from poaching the best talent in the Hurricanes' backyard. Miami has nine of its 21 commitments living within 150 miles of the Coral Gables campus.

With another five-star recruit in the fold, Cristobal has sent an emphatic message to the rest of the college football world that Miami is going to do what it takes to make sure the top local prospects are staying home to help the Hurricanes win championships.
