In Mario Cristobal's first interview after agreeing to a brand-new contract, he told radio host Joe Rose that he's a Miami Hurricane 'through and through."
That had to be music to Israel Abrams' ears, because the five-star quarterback is jumping at the bit to get to Coral Gables and learn from Cristobal and his staff. Abrams was so excited about the news, that he had to share his thoughts with Rivals' EJ Holland. Safe to say, the future Miami quarterback is fired up for what's to come with the program:

Mario Cristobal has made Miami a destination for blue-chip recruits
Abrams isn't far off right now. Miami's 2027 recruiting class is ranked second overall on 247Sports, behind Texas A&M and third overall on Rivals/On3 behind Texas A&M and Notre Dame. The Hurricanes have five recruits that currently hold five-star rankings on the 247Sports Composite.
And Cristobal's work isn't close to finished. He's still looking to add more elite talent to the 2027 class and already has Miami in a great position to land multiple blue-chip players in the 2028 class. Up until this point, Miami's best recruiting work has been in the trenches, but after landing Malachi Toney in 2025, the Hurricanes staff has focused its efforts on stacking up playmakers.
"Mario Cristobal, you always think offensive line, trenches and point of attack," 247Sports national recruiting analyst Andrew Ivins said. "It's a little bit different in this class and what stands out to me is Miami, in my opinion, has the two superstars in South Florida committed — Nick Lennear and now A'mir Sears."
Lennear and Sears are two of those five-star recruits in the class. Sears reclassified up from the 2028 class to join this talented group.

Abrams will have the opportunity to challenge for a spot on the two-deep depth chart immediately in 2027. Darian Mensah is the undisputed starter this season for the Canes, but if the redshirt junior has the season that the Hurricanes expect he will, the possibility of him going to the NFL is quite high.
Cristobal and GM Dennis Smith would like for Mensah to be the last transfer quarterback Miami brings in for a while, which would give Abrams a pathway to early playing time. The quarterback room will soon be full of in-house talent as three-star recruit Knox Annis is already committed in the 2028 class and CJ Cypher, a highly-touted arm in the 2029 class, is also pledged to the Hurricanes, which speaks to the future at the position for the ACC powerhouse.
Everything is set up for Abrams to succeed as a Miami Hurricane and Cristobal will be right there with him the whole way.
