Miami alum Andres Borregales will compete with John Parker Romo to be the kicker with the New England Patriots in 2025. New England selected Borregales with the 182nd overall pick in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft on Saturday.
Romo was signed by New England to their practice squad in December after making 11 out of 12 field goal attempts and seven out of eight extra points with Minnesota during the 2024 season. Veteran Joey Slye made 26 out of 33 field goal attempts and 25 out of 26 extra points as New England's kicker in 2024.
Borregales set Miami career records with 183 extra points and 405 points while finishing second with 184 point-after-touchdown attempts and 74 field goals made and third with 86 field goal attempts. Borregales earned All-ACC honorable mention in 2021 and 2022 and first-team all-conference in 2023 and 2024.
By making 86.0 percent of his career field goal attempts, Borregales is sixth in ACC history. Borregales finished his collegiate career making all 11 of his field goal attempts inside of 40 yards and five out of six from 40 to 49 yards and he made both from 50-plus.
It was easy to mock Andres Borregales to the Patriots. He’s the best kicker in his class.

New England made Borregales the first kicker selected in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Baltimore Ravens selected Tyler Loop from Arizona four picks later. Borregales finished fifth nationally in 2024, making 94.7 percent of his field goals. 44th, averaging 63.08 yards per kickoff and 39th, with 65.66 percent of his kickoffs going for touchbacks.
Borregales was considered the best kicker in the 2025 NFL Draft by several media outlets. ESPN NFL Nation reporter Mike Reiss shared that Borregales idolized New England legend Adam Vinatieri growing up and despite being from South Florida, he is looking forward to kicking in the snow with the Patriots in the future.
