As Miami Hurricanes spring practice heats up, former quarterback Cam Ward has set the tone for what fans should expect from his successor, Carson Beck. According to Ward, the standard in offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson's system is clear and the mark is 30 touchdown passes, at the bare minimum.

Beck, the former Georgia signal-caller, transferred to Miami in hopes of maximizing his draft potential and leading the Hurricanes to their first ACC Championship since joining the conference. While his time in Coral Gables is just beginning, expectations are already sky-high — especially from Ward, who thrived under Dawson last season. "I mean, you're talking about the quarterback playing in Coach [Shannon] Dawson's offense," Ward said. "You should at least throw 30 touchdowns a year."

Ward, emphasized that the system is designed for success, provided the quarterback embraces the process. "I did that in four games at UIW, so it's not hard to break records here," Ward added. "But I think the biggest thing I'd tell Carson is just to be himself and try to win games."

The pressure isn't just about numbers. Beck is stepping into a program with a revamped defense, a strong recruiting class, and rising young talent on offense. Unlike Ward’s time with the Hurricanes, Beck could have the complete roster support needed to make a run at the College Football Playoff.

If Beck can deliver a stat line along the lines of 35 touchdowns to just eight interceptions, as Ward was able to put up, then the Hurricanes will likely find themselves in the national spotlight. The challenge for Beck will be adapting quickly to Dawson’s fast-paced system and living up to the growing expectations, which will be especially challenging giving Beck's ongoing recovery process. But if Ward’s belief is any indication, the Hurricanes may have found the right man to lead their next charge.
