Miami quarterback Carson Beck's decision to transfer from Georgia raises a red flag according to an anonymous NFL General Manager who spoke to Georgia Bulldogs on SI. The NFL GM stated the decision by Beck to leave Georgia for Miami is not a step up in competition or for better coaching and that it is a bad look.

The GM continued that the decision by Beck to transfer from Georgia to Miami makes you wonder "a lot about a lot." Beck will play behind a more experienced offensive line at Miami and some analysts have stated he is a better fit playing for offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson with the Hurricanes than he was at Georgia.

The season Cam Ward had playing for Dawson in 2024 after transferring from Washington State made Miami a QB destination. Ward was a Heisman Trophy finalist, finished fourth in the voting and is the projected first pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Beck as a projectd first round pick in 2025 at the outset of the 2024 season.

Beck is currently projected as the 47th pick in the 2026 by the NFL Mock Draft Database. As recently as November 16, Beck was projected as the first pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. A season ending torn UCL to his right elbow has likely raised questions about Beck's future.

""(Carson) Beck, either by Kirby (Smart) letting him go, or choosing to go, either way is a big red flag. It certainly hurts him with us. He didn't leave in order to win, play against better competition, or get better coaching. A bad look for him. That makes no sense and makes you wonder a lot about a lot.""

How well Beck recovers from his injury and what type of season he and Miami have in 2025 will play a major role in where he is drafted in 2026. Beck is one of the most polarizing players in college football. CBS Sports named Beck and Miami wide receiver C.J. Daniels players to watch in 2026.

In a separate CBS Sports article, Chip Patterson asked "Will Carson Beck return healthy and in top form? Patterson also stated "Beck has the chance to show, at Miami, that he still is capable of being one of the best quarterbacks in the country." Beck will unquestionably be one of the most watched players in college football in 2025.
