Training camp for the Arizona Cardinals has opened up, and many eyes will be on Carson Beck.
The Cardinals are hoping that Beck, a third-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, can compete with veterans Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew for regular-season snaps at some point this season, and he's likely to get a good look in the preseason opener on August 6. But it seems like the former Miami Hurricanes quarterback had a rough weekend and people are already up in arms.

Carson Beck has had a lot of *big* misses early in camp. Like, 5+ yards off target. Something to keep an eye on.

Carson Beck looks like a rookie QB early in training camp
You can check out some of the clips out there on X and, yes, he missed some passes. It's practice. At times, Beck is with the ones, sometimes he's with the twos and other times he's rolling with some guys that probably won't make it to August 6 or definitely won't be around past August 7. So, take it all with a grain of salt.
Beck's limitations are well known. His arm might never be what it was after the UCL tear and subsequent surgery. Beck was never going to fool anyone into thinking he's Lamar Jackson, but the NFL is still 80 percent mental and making the right decisions with the football is where he will have to shine.
But don't let a bad practice distract you from the fact that Beck has had some good practices too and there are plenty of clips showing some of the good. For example, here's Beck taking a horrible snap and making something happen.

Now what's the context for the good and the bad? If Beck is doing team drills with a practice squad-level offensive line against the Cardinals' first-team defense, how is he supposed to look? This is the NFL and everything happens fast.
This isn't to excuse Beck, but it's the first couple of days of practice. If this was happening in late August or early September, there would be some real cause for concern. But we're in July, so why is everyone tripping? I get why a lot of Georgia Bulldogs fans are still sour that they ran him off and had to watch him lead Miami to the CFP championship, but that's on you guys.

The majority of Miami football fans appreciate Beck for the leadership he brought to last year's team, and he had plenty of good moments that helped the Hurricanes almost reach the mountaintop. Here's hoping he shuts up the haters soon enough.
