Carson Beck is sixth in the Pro Football Focus "2026 NFL Draft: Preseason quarterback rankings." Entering the 2024 offseason, some projections had Beck as the top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. After an inconsistent 2024 season, Beck chose to transfer from Georgia to Miami.
Beck gets a new start and will work with Miami offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson, who helped develop Cam Ward into the top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft after he transferred from Washington State. In the 2025 transfer portal, Beck is ranked fourth overall and the second QB by 247Sports.
As a high school prospect in 2020, Beck was the 254th-ranked prospect and ninth pro-style QB by 247Sports. After a 2023 season when Beck completed 72.4 percent of his pass attempts for 3,941 passing yards, 24 touchdowns and six interceptions, it appeared Beck would significantly exceed his recruiting ranking.
Beck regressed to 64.7 percent completions, 3,485 yards, 28 TDs and 12 interceptions in 2024. The 2024 season for Beck occurred in three segments. Beck completed 68.3 percent of his pass attempts for 680 yards, seven TDs, no interceptions and ran 11 times for 55 yards in the first three games.
"6. CARSON BECK, MIAMI (FL)Trevor Sikkema, Pro Football Focus
Beck was one of the top college football quarterbacks a year ago. He has a decent frame for NFL standards at 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds, as well as an adequate arm for both distance and velocity. He earned an 80.2 PFF passing grade last season, which was fine but felt like a disappointment due to potential QB1 expectations.
Instead of declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft, Beck transferred to Miami for his final season of eligibility. His play was OK in 2024, but he really struggled under pressure on his way to a 30.6 PFF passing grade in such situations. That must improve for him to get back to a first-round projection. "
In the next six games, Beck completed 64.4 percent of his passes for 1,808 yards, 10 TDs and 12 interceptions. Beck completed 63.0 percent of his passes for 997 yards, 11 TDs and no interceptions and ran 17 times for 32 yards and one TD in the final four games of 2024, including missing the second half of the SEC Championship.
The offseason for Beck needed to include examining what worked over the first three and last 3.5 games of his 2024 season and what he struggled with in the middle six contests. Beck should receive better protection behind an experienced Miami offensive line and he will not be throwing to Georgia receivers who dropped 36 passes in 2024.
Pro Football Focus ranks Beck as the 32nd best prospect in the 2026 NFL Draft. That would project Beck as the last pick of the first round. In March, Pro Football Focus graded Beck as the third-highest-rated transfer QB behind Mark Granowski of Iowa and Preston Stone of Northwestern.
Granowski played for Football Championship Subdivision North Dakota State before Iowa and Stone was at SMU. Stone was the starting QB for SMU when they won the American Athletic Conference in 2023 and the backup as the Mustangs advanced to the ACC Championship Game and College Football Playoff in 2024.
Beck is entering his sixth season of college football and did not become the starter at Georgia until his redshirt junior season in 2023. In two seasons as the starting QB at Georgia, Beck was 24-3. Miami needed Beck as much as they needed him with uncertainty at QB entering the 2024 season.
