Carson Beck 'isn't worried' about Miami's CFP ranking but maybe he should be

The quarterback wants to keep winning, but the Hurricanes might need some style points

The now-former chair of the College Football Playoff selection committee didn't mince his words when he said that Miami wasn't good enough on offense to be a playoff team. Even though Mack Rhoades is gone, it's impossible to know whether he was speaking for himself or the whole committee.

Either way, Carson Beck may have heard the message, but he also doesn't seem to care about it. The Miami quarterback thinks it's as simple as winning the game in front of him. He's not wrong, but he also might not be completely right.

Beck pays no attention to the eye test

Despite concerns from the committee, Beck is continuing to look straight ahead and worry about the results over the optics. The Hurricanes are one of a glut of two-loss teams and, by winning out, they have a very good chance of getting in the 12-team bracket with an at-large bid.

"I kind of talked about it last week, but all we can do is just continue to win. So, that’s really all we can control, and just trying to execute each and every day, and then ultimately, on Saturday, going out there and put up more points than our opponent," Beck said.

If there was ever an opportunity to put up more points than the opponent, it's this Saturday afternoon against N.C. State.

The Wolfpack are anything but on defense

N.C. State's defense is terrible, one of the worst in the nation. The Wolfpack have given up 36, 53, and 36 points over their past three games. One of those games was a 48-36 win over Georgia Tech, so even with a leaky defense, the offense can pack a punch behind quarterback C.J. Bailey and running backs Hollywood Smothers and Daylan Scott.

It's a great opportunity for the Hurricanes' offense to put up a big number and a great opportunity for playmakers like Malachi Toney to show that Miami has the type of pieces on offense that are playoff worthy.

Also, keep an eye on running back Girard Pringle Jr.; He might be the big-play boost in the backfield that the Hurricanes have been looking for this season.
