Matt Hayes of USA Today reported on Wednesday that Alabama and Georgia were interested in former Bulldogs' quarterback Carson Beck when he entered the transfer portal with a no-contact tag. Beck ended up signing with the Miami Hurricanes not long after he officially entered the portal.
Hayes' article focuses on the offensive regression at Georgia in 2024. According to Hayes, Georgia struggled in pass protection and with 31 drops from their receivers. Miami had one of the best offensive lines nationally in 2024 and projects to in 2025, but has an extremely inexperienced wide receiver corps.
Beck suffered a season-ending elbow injury in the SEC Championship Game loss to Texas that could keep him out of spring practice. Led by Beck, Georgia was 38th nationally averaging 31.5 points per game, 51st averaging 405.4 total yards per game and 12th posting 281.0 passing YPG.
Beck finished the season completing 64.7 percent of his pass attempts for 3,485 yards, 28 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, nine of which came in a four-game span in the middle of the season. The other three occurred in the regular season win at Texas.
Alabama also entered the race for Carson Beck before he signed with Miami
"Georgia at the front of the line for (Carson) Beck...but SEC heavyweight Alabama was next to call...Miami won't begin the 2025 season with a current roster full of young and inexperienced receivers."Matt Hayes USA Today
Hayes doesn't state when Alabama, Georgia, or Miami called, but with the 48-hour timeline, it clearly occurred quickly. The article goes more into depth about the offensive problems at Georgia. Miami should protect Beck better than he was at Georgia, but the WRs are young other than LSU transfer C.J. Daniels.
Hayes expects Miami to add transfer WRs to surround Beck, who they reportedly are paying $4 million for one season. Miami needs to add as much talent as they can with another one-year transfer at QB. Being able to add Beck is a huge boost for Mario Cristobal and Miami, as they project to challenge for a spot in the College Football Playoff.
