As the final minutes ticked off the clock in the first half of the National Championship, the Miami Hurricanes had a whopping zero points, and the Indiana Hoosiers had a solid 10 to their name.
On Miami's last drive of the half, head coach Mario Cristobal opted to attempt a field goal from 50 yards out, much to the chagrin of Hurricane fans everywhere.
Place kicker Carter Davis, who went 17 of 23 on field goal attempts through the first 15 games of the season, bounced the kick off of the upright, keeping the Canes' point total at zero.
Immediately, cameras cut to Cristobal and then Miami quarterback Carson Beck as he reeled at the missed field goal, and his reaction was relatable for every Hurricane fan in the world.
Carson Beck can't contain frustation at missed FG
The first half was far from ideal for the Canes. Beck earned just 49 yards through the air, and the running back room earned a minimal 27 yards on the ground as the Hoosier defense completely overwhelmed the Miami offensive line.
Avoiding an explanation of opting for the field goal attempt instead of going for it on 4th & 2 (just five plays after successfully converting a fourth down attempt), Cristobal shared his displeasure for the first half.
"We've got to play Hurricane football," Cristobal told ESPN's Molly McGrath before heading to the locker room at halftime.
Cutting fans a little deeper, Davis wasn't exactly a reliable field goal kicker this season, especially in the College Football Playoff. With three FG misses in the first round against the Texas A&M Aggies and going 50 percent on FG attempts against Ole Miss in the semifinals, he was far from perfect.
Yet, Cristobal seemingly had more faith in him than Beck in the offense, maybe an additional reason that Beck was so emotive after the missed field goal.

With two quarters to go, the Hoosiers held a 10-0 lead over the Hurricanes, but Cristobal and Beck weren't dead in the water quite yet; they just might not attempt another 50-yard field goal anytime soon.
