Carson Beck has embarked on a transformative journey since last season, transferring to the University of Miami while navigating recovery from a significant elbow injury.
As of this month, Beck's rehabilitation is progressing, though he remains limited in practice. Miami's head coach, Mario Cristobal, provided insights into Beck's involvement: "He won't throw in the spring game. He's throwing some other things... those rehab contraptions, those balls or whatnot, and it's right there. We feel great about it. He's taking part not only in walkthroughs but also in team setting drills that allow him to hand the ball off, go through every progression, stays up there, and relentlessly watches film."
Beck's 2024 season concluded abruptly during the SEC Championship Game against Texas. On the final play of the first half, he sustained an injury to his throwing arm, later diagnosed as a torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL). This necessitated surgery on December 23, 2024, performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles. The procedure aimed to ensure a full recovery, and was successful, with expectations for Beck to resume throwing in the spring of 2025.
Initially setting his sights for the 2025 NFL Draft, Beck reconsidered his options towards the end of last year and during rehabilitation. On January 9, 2025, he entered the transfer portal, and shortly thereafter, committed to Miami.
Despite not participating in live throwing drills, Beck remains engaged in team activities and is focusing on mental reps and building chemistry with his new teammates. Recently he hosted offensive teammates for the Super Bowl and took teammates out to dinner.
As Beck continues his recovery, the focus remains on ensuring his readiness for 2025. His integration into Miami's offense in fall camp will be pivotal in the Hurricanes pursuit of an ACC title and college football playoff berth.
