CBS Sports named Malachi Toney one of its six Heisman Trophy dark horses for the upcoming season. Toney was the only non-quarterback on the list, which also included Alabama's Keelon Russell, South Carolina's LaNorris Sellers, Auburn's Byrum Brown, BYU's Bear Bachmeier and SMU's Kevin Jennings.

His freshman season included five 100-yard receiving games, and he delivered in Miami's biggest moments during its run to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.

Toney caught 22 passes for 226 yards across Miami's first three playoff games before recording 10 catches for 122 yards and a touchdown against Indiana in the national title game.

Quarterbacks dominate the Heisman Trophy in college football, so Toney will need both a massive individual season and a Miami team that stays in the CFP picture.

DeVonta Smith became the first wide receiver in nearly three decades to win the Heisman when he took home the 2020 award at Alabama. He did it while serving as the top weapon for an undefeated national champion and producing one of the best seasons the position has ever seen.
