It hasn't taken long for new Miami Hurricanes defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman to turn heads. Nope, not one bit. On Monday, Hetherman spoke with the media for the first time since making the move from Minnesota to Miami to take over as the leader on defense.

We don't have to tell you that the Canes' defense was a complete and total disaster last season. You can make the argument that the defense 100 percent prevented Cam Ward and Co. from winning the ACC title and reaching the College Football Playoff.

With things on D being a major letdown, Mario Cristobal made the call to part ways with former Miami DC Lance Guidry. Hetherman will come in and bring a new look for the unit. One thing is certain, however, and it's that Hetherman is going to have his guys ready to be physical and lay the hammer on opposing offensive players whenever they have the chance:

Not a single Miami fan is going to complain if Hetherman's defensive standouts play with passion and aggression next season. It's something that was missed in 2024 and again, the defense for the Canes was a major reason why the campaign as a whole was a disappointment.

That can't be the case next fall and winter. The Hurricanes have signed Carson Beck to be the team's new starter with Ward off to the pros. Beck has already helped skyrocket Miami's National Championship Game odds. The addition of C.J. Daniels is also massive for the offense.

None of that will matter, however, if the defense can't take a major step forward and post some big-time stops. It's going to be on Hetherman and his defensive staff to make that happen. There will be no excuses for him next season, but Miami supporters strongly believe he's the right man for the job.
