It looked like the Duke Blue Devils had some green-eyed monsters among them and that was enough reason for Darian Mensah to search for greener pastures.
ESPN's David Hale released a story on the Miami Hurricanes quarterback that answers a lot of questions. Mensah's transfer to Miami was a big topic during the ACC kickoff last week, with a lot of accusations of tampering being thrown toward Mario Cristobal and the Hurricanes. The redshirt junior used his time on the podium to speak about the move and generally gave the impression that he was proud of his time with the Blue Devils and was ready to move on, but his comments to Hale suggest there were more issues beyond the surface.

"It's a huge credit to [my teammates] because stepping into [the Miami] locker room was pretty easy. Usually it's not. At Duke, it wasn't easy to do that," Mensah told ESPN. "At Duke there was kind of some friction when I first got there because my dollar amount was released. Everybody sees that, and it was just hard for me to be the new guy, and everybody said, 'Oh, you're getting paid more than me, and I've been here for X [number] of years."

When asked about Mensah's comments, Duke tight end Jeremiah Hasley said there were no issues in the Duke locker room.
Time for everyone, including Darian Mensah, to focus on the now
This isn't a criticism of Mensah because he certainly has the right to tell his story, but I hope this is the end of it. Mensah has said his piece, Manny Diaz said his piece and Pat Narduzzi just had to get himself involved too. So everyone's aired their grievances, and now we can get ready for training camp and the upcoming season.

Mensah also has to do his part to shut down any more questions about his transfer. People are going to think what they want, and the Hurricanes have already drawn a ton of hate from outsiders over the past five decades, so this is nothing new for this program. Although Mensah is putting a lot of unnecessary pressure on himself, he'll be fine. Duke is coming to Hard Rock this season and that November 14th game is the week after the Hurricanes play Notre Dame, so if there was ever a trap game on the schedule, that would be it.
With less than 50 days before Miami takes the field Friday night against Stanford, we've talked about everything that needs to be addressed. In about two weeks, training camp will begin, and I expect every member of the Hurricanes, including Mensah, to be completely locked in.
