Porter appeared in 19 games over two seasons with the Mountaineers, recording 46 tackles, six pass breakups, and one interception. A majority of his playing time came from his sophomore season where he played in every game.
Transferring to Miami, Porter continued to develop, playing in 30 games over three seasons. He amassed 62 tackles, 12 pass breakups, and two tackles for loss. In his senior year, he recorded 28 tackles and seven pass breakups.
At 5-foot-9 and 185 pounds, Porter is known for his physical style of play. Despite a 4.65-second 40-yard dash time, his instincts, tackling ability, and press-man coverage give him a chance to succeed in the NFL. He excels in run support and has shown effectiveness blitzing.
Porter will reunite with Bills cornerbacks coach Jahmile Addae, who previously coached him at both West Virginia and Miami. This existing relationship could help his transition to the next level. It is not often that you see a player coached by somebody at multiple schools and the NFL. The Bills also signed Virginia Tech safety Keonta Jenkins and New Hampshire safety Wande Owens to UDFA contracts. Porter will need to seperate himself from the rest of the pack to be able to make the Bills 53-man roster.
Miami had a successful 2025 NFL Draft with seven players hearing their names called. The UDFA's in addition to Porter include Xavier Restrepo, Jacolby George, Mishael Powell and Simeon Barrow. Zach Carpenter Jr., Sam Brown Jr., Marley Cook, Mason Napper, CJ Clark, and Elijah Alston all received camp invites.
