Five-star WR Tristen Keys just recently took an official to Coral Gables and despite being committed to LSU, there is optimism growing around him flipping to Miami. But is it fools gold? Will Canes fans look back at this time as another recruiting story where the player never ended up changing his mind? Or is the feeling real that Miami could grab the top offensive tackle and top receiver in the 2026 class?
The Hurricanes already have the first part of that secured with five-star OT Jackson Cantwell committed. Let's take a look at the building saga with Keys:
High School Performance and Player Profile
Keys is from Hattiesburg High School in Mississippi and stands at 6-foot-3 and weighs 185 pounds. During his junior season in 2024, Keys recorded 58 receptions for 1,275 yards and 14 touchdowns, leading Hattiesburg to a deep playoff run. His performance earned him a spot in the 2025 Under Armour All-America Game.
On3 has Keys as the No. 5 player overall, 247Sports has him at No. 3 in the country and Rivals places him at No. 5. All three recruiting services have him as the No. 1 wide receiver.
What we know about Keys' recruitment
Keys committed to LSU back in March about two weeks after he unofficially visited Miami. He went to Coral Gables twice in April and May, one of which being the spring game. To kick off his official visits, Keys began with Miami and the pictures are a pretty interesting. He was also on campus at Ole Miss on June 4.
He has a handful of other official visits lined up. Keys will visit Texas A&M on June 5, Auburn on June 10, Tennessee on June 13 (the Volunteers also reportedly just offered Keys' brother), Alabama on June 17 and LSU on June 20. Recent reports suggest that Keys enjoyed his time at Coral Gables and while he does have multiple visits lined up, it is nice to see him speak highly of the Hurricanes.
On June 5, Keys signed an NIL deal with Adidas who is also partnered with the University of Miami. His NIL Valuation is estimated to be $536,000. Another report mentioned he removed all LSU tags from his social media.
Final Verdict
With his recent scrub of the LSU tags on socials and his visit to Miami, it looks like Keys' recruitment is still very much open. This isn't to say that he will flip, but in the modern era of college football it wouldn't surprise anyone if a change were to happen. It's not completely clear if Miami would be the school that Keys decides to commit to if he parts ways with LSU either. But, it feels a lot more likely than it did a few weeks ago.
