Who would have thought that the Miami Hurricanes defensive unit would essentially become the team's "backbone?" Upon entering the 2025 college football season, few would have thought, or even imagined that the Hurricanes' defense would become an aggressive, swarming, and reliable unit. In each of the Miami Hurricanes' victories, the defense has been instrumental in all four wins the Canes have enjoyed, thus far.
Commencing in the Notre Dame victory, the Miami Hurricanes defense rosed and stepped up at the most opportune time by ending the game on a sack. In the contest between the Canes and South Florida Bulls, the Hurricanes defense dominated.
A couple of weeks ago, the Miami Hurricanes defensive unit came through again when the offensive side of the ball, particularly, in the passing game, did not play their best. It does not take the casual college football fan much effort to notice how the defense of the Miami Hurricanes had a tremendous hand in helping the Canes commence the season undefeated, along with the program becoming third ranked in the entire nation.
One of the biggest acquisitions that the Miami Hurricanes have captured is first year defensive coordinator, Corey Hetherman. Thus far, Hetherman has brought back the aggressive type of style of defense that was instrumental in the previous success of the Miami Hurricanes program during the glory days, when it appeared that the Canes were vying for a national championship quest on what seemed as though, on a yearly basis.
On film, the defense has a plethora of quarterback pressures. Also, when it appears that the defense will ultimately surrender a score, the defense has stiffened, by not allowing the opposing offense to score on drives, "at-will", when the opponents drive deep into Miami Hurricanes territory.
Winning on the defensive side of the ball, is a "hallmark trait" of the majority of "championship pedigree" teams. The Miami Hurricanes defense have performed very highly in every matchup. This unit has single-handedly positioned the Hurricanes to an exceptional position and status, heading into the program's epic contest against a heralded rival.
