Jeff Dyer will continue his role as Director of Basketball Operations under new head coach Jai Lucas, per CanesInSight. Dyer's retention ensures continuity following the retirement of long-time head coach Jim Larranaga and massive turnover within the basketball program.
Dyer has been a part of the Hurricanes' basketball operations since 2014, starting as a graduate assistant before moving to associate director of basketball operations in 2017. In October 2021, he went to his current role as Director of Basketball Operations. Dyer has been instrumental in various aspects of the program, including compiling opponent film for scouting, developing scouting reports, overseeing film exchanges, assisting with scheduling, running camps, and recruiting graduate assistants.
A holdover from Jim Larrañaga’s staff — CanesInSight has learned that Jeff Dyer, who has been @CanesHoops Director of Ops since 2021, is expected to stay on staff with Jai Lucas. Highly respected in his role for Miami. Was a GA from ‘14-16 and on staff since 2017. pic.twitter.com/7XEEHgK8X2

During his first year as the Director of Basketball Operations, Miami reached their first Elite Eight appearance. The following season, the team won an ACC co-regular season title, made its debut in the Final Four and tied a program record with 29 wins.
Dyer's continued presence on the staff is expected to provide stability as Coach Lucas begins his tenure. The entire roster from the 204-25 season is gone and the 2025-26 roster will be made up entirely of transfers and true freshman. Dyer's understanding of the program should help Lucas, as well as the incoming players, transition into the school. The decision to retain Dyer also shows the program's openness to preserving the successful elements of its recent past. When someone is retained like this that is usually a sign that they are objectively good at what they do.
Miami has been very aggressive in the transfer portal with four commits over the last couple weeks. The Hurricanes have brought in Tre Donaldson from Michigan, New Mexico guard Tru Washington, TCU center Ernest Udeh Jr. and Indiana forward Malik Reneau. Miami also recently received a commitment from Dante Allen, a 4-star guard from Montverde Academy.
