East Carolina hires Devontay Love-Taylor as next GM
At ECU, Love-Taylor is expected to carry the title director of player personnel/recruiting and general manager, with a day-to-day focus on helping run the recruiting staff, identifying high school and portal targets and organizing visits and evaluations.
A Florida native from the Tampa Bay area who played at Mitchell High School, Love-Taylor started his college career at Florida International, appearing in 32 games with 16 starts. At FIU, he earned honorable mention All-Conference USA recognition in 2019 and was part of an offensive line that helped the Panthers rank among the national leaders in fewest sacks allowed.
He transferred to Florida State ahead of the 2020 season. In 2020, Love-Taylor started the first seven games before an injury and won the program's Don Powell Award. In 2021, he started all nine games, was a team captain, and earned honorable mention All-ACC.
After his playing career, Love-Taylor joined Arizona State under head coach Kenny Dillingham and was promoted into a director of scouting role. Miami hired him in the summer of 2024 as an assistant director of player personnel, then elevated him to director of player personnel ahead of the 2025 season.
East Carolina is coming off a 2025 season that included a 9-4 record and a Military Bowl win over Pittsburgh. Miami will look to replace Love-Taylor after having one of its most successful seasons in recent years. The Canes went 13-3 in 2025 and just came up short against Indiana in the national championship game, 27-21.
