Elite 2027 cornerback includes Miami Hurricanes in final five schools

Hayden Stepp, the long, rangy defensive back from Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas, told Rivals he's down to five schools. Miami made the cut along with Oregon, Alabama, Clemson and Tennessee.

Rivals has Stepp ranked as a top-25 prospect in the 2027 class. He is listed at 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds.

247Sports lists Stepp as the No. 23 overall prospect and the No. 4 cornerback in the 2027 class, and the 247Sports Composite has him in the top 50 nationally. ESPN also slots him high, with Stepp listed 15th overall and third at his position in its ranking.

He finished this past season with 24 tackles and four pass breakups, and has been selected for the 2026 Under Armour All-America Game and the 2026 Polynesian Bowl.

Miami is also hoping to snag another 2027 defensive back in Chuck Roberts. Roberts just recently announced that he will be making his commitment decision on Dec. 29. He is deciding between seven teams: Miami, Florida, Missouri, North Carolina, Oregon, Tennessee and Washington. The Canes will get a better idea of what the DB class could look in 2027 with that decision. Miami already has one safety on their 2027 commitment list in Jaylyn Jones.

In the 2026 class, the Hurricanes pulled in a major haul of DB's that included four cornerbacks and two safeties.
