FAMU vs. Albany State
Florida A&M opened the season on Aug. 29 with a 20-7 win over Albany State. That game was Gray's debut and a reunion with his former team.
Graduate transfer quarterback Isaiah Knowles, who followed Gray from Albany State, completed 14 of 23 passes for 190 yards and a 2-yard touchdown to Jaquan Lee. Chase Gillespie added a 9-yard rushing score and Jamal Hailey led the Rattlers with 16 carries for 54 yards.
Florida A&M held Albany State to 3 rushing yards on the day and recorded five sacks (defensive end Antonio Camon Jr. had three of them). The Rattlers also blocked both a punt and a field goal, and Albany State did not score until late in the fourth quarter.
FAMU vs. South Carolina State
South Carolina State beat Florida A&M 31-13 at Hard Rock Stadium last Sunday. The Rattlers managed just 161 total yards and -1 yard rushing yard on 30 carries.
Knowles went 7 of 22 for 94 yards (he won two SIAC Offensive Player of the Year awards at Albany State) before Dustin Fletcher entered and completed 6 of 8 passes for 68 yards. Kieren Jackson led the receivers with four catches for 69 yards, while Hailey had 11 carries for 13 yards.
South Carolina State RB Mason Pickett-Hicks rushed for 210 yards and two touchdowns, including a 58-yard score. Florida A&M safety Justin Bostic intercepted two passes and returned one 80 yards for a touchdown. Kicker Emilio Bacardi made field goals from 30 and 31 yards.
The Rattlers led 3-0 after their opening drive, but then spent the rest of the afternoon trying to catch up.
FAMU vs. Miami series history
Florida A&M beat Miami 16-13 back in 1979. The Hurricanes are 11-0 since then and won 56-9 the last time the teams played.
