Miami Hurricanes redshirt freshman wide receiver Ny Carr has entered the NCAA transfer portal, as reported by On3's Hayes Fawcett. Carr, a 5-foot-11, 185-pound receiver, will have four years of eligibility remaining. He was ranked as a top-80 national recruit in the 2024 class according to the On3 Industry Ranking.

Carr committed to the Hurricanes in October 2023 and held an On3 Industry rating of 95.08. He was ranked as the 76th-best player nationally, 16th wide receiver, and 11th player out of the state of Georgia. Last year Carr participated in three games, keeping his redshirt, and recorded one reception for eight yards. The Hurricanes had anticipated Carr to be a contributor in the upcoming seasons despite his limited on-field action in his first year. Now with his exit, Miami's depth at wide receiver faces further challenges.

Miami's coaching staff, led by head coach Mario Cristobal, will need to reassess their WR depth chart. The team had previously signed four-star receiver JoJo Trader in the 2024 class and are looking for sixth year transfer CJ Daniels to continue to produce. Additionally, Ray Ray Joseph is projected to take on a bigger role, potentially replacing Xavier Restrepo in the slot. Freshman Malachi Toney turned heads at the spring game and TE Elija Lofton had a good spring but the Hurricanes have to replace the production of their five leading receivers from last season.

The Hurricanes may also explore options in the transfer portal to address the gaps. The second transfer portal window, which opened today, could provide Miami an opportunity to seek experienced receivers to help transfer QB Carson Beck. Reports have linked Syracuse transfer WR Trebor Pena to Miami.

Despite the overhaul at the position, it seems like Carr envisioned another season in a full receiver room and did not want to take the risk of not playing much. Carr's decision to transfer is simply the reality of college football in the current era.
