You just had a feeling an intriguing target at receiver was going to become available for the Miami football team and Mario Cristobal to go after this spring, right? The good news is that indeed is the case, as there's a new name for fans to keep an eye on.
That'd be Trebor Pena, who is coming off a fantastic 2024 season with Syracuse. On Tuesday, the breaking news arrived that the 6-0, 185-pounder from New Jersey will officially be entering the transfer portal when things open up on Wednesday.
This past season for the Orange, Pena hauled in 84 receptions for 941 yards and nine touchdowns. The veteran wideout is getting ready for his fifth college season. According to 247Sports' Chris Hummer, Miami is an early player for his transfer recruitment. Adding this kind of talent and experience would no question be huge for new QB1 Carson Beck:
Miami is an early team have on the radar here, per a source.

The Hurricanes have been looking for a high-level receiver in the portal. Trebor Pena certainly fits the bill. https://t.co/URGAJCu9QS https://t.co/2WofLeiJvL
Miami has already been linked with Syracuse WR transfer Trebor Pena
This offseason, the Canes invested quite a bit to bring in Beck, who stunned everyone by leaving Georgia for Coral Gables. The addition of LSU wide receiver transfer CJ Daniels is exciting, but people have been expecting another quality wideout to arrive via the spring portal too.
Pena is a quality slot wideout and while Miami has rising studs RayRay Joseph and Malachi Toney, adding a player of Pena's quality would be a no-brainer for Cristobal and Co. However, keep in mind here that plenty of other teams are going to be in the mix to potentially sign the Syracuse transfer.
Miami is already quite familiar with the speedster, as Pena put on a show against the Canes last fall. In the regular-season finale, Pena lit up the Miami defense, as he posted six receptions for 128 yards and a touchdown. Syracuse took down Miami in that game too, ending the team's hopes of winning the ACC and moving on to the College Football Playoff.
The addition of Beck alone has Miami in great shape to keep the offense humming. The loss of future No. 1 NFL Draft pick Cam Ward will sting, but Beck is ready to help Miami put together a year to remember in 2025. If the Canes can bring in Pena as well, it would make the offseason even better for Cristobal.
