Chris Hummer of 247Sports reported that Miami is an early team on the radar for second-team All-ACC wide receiver Trebor Pena, per a source. C.J. Daniels, who transferred from LSU during the winter portal, is the only experienced WR currently on the Miami roster.

Pena led the ACC with 84 receptions, was fourth with 941 yards and tied for third with nine touchdowns in 2024. Pena caught six passes for 128 yards and one TD in the regular season finale, which helped Syracuse upset Miami 42-38 and eliminate the Hurricanes from the ACC Championship game.

Pena had 47 receptions for first downs, 21 that were for 15 or more yards and nine that went for 25 or more. Primarily used as a slot receiver, Pena had 67 receptions for 553 yards and four TDs on catches that began from behind the line of scrimmage to inside ten yards, per Pro Football Focus via Gaby Urrutia of Inside the U.

Pena would likely be the starting slot receiver for Miami. Rising junior RayRay Joseph and freshman Malachi Toney are currently the slot receivers for Miami. Peña would provide Miami with a proven slot receiver who has a history of production at a high level.

Miami has to replace record-setting slot receiver Xavier Restrepo. In two years playing under offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson, Restrepo had 152 receptions for 2,219 yards and 17 TDs. Restrepo set Miami career records for receptions and receiving yards and the single-season reception record in 2023.

Pena was incredibly consistent for Syracuse during the 2024 season, with at least six receptions and 67 yards in nine games. The spring transfer portal opens on Wednesday and runs through April 25. Miami lost defensive tackle Josh Horton and safety Zaquan Patterson, who will officially enter the transfer portal when it opens on Wednesday.
