Former Miami signee Matt Able is back on the market after one season away from Coral Gables. The NC State guard will enter the transfer portal while also declaring for the NBA draft, maintaining his college eligibility.
Able is a former blue-chip prospect the Hurricanes once had, and he is now available again after a promising freshman year in the ACC.

Matt Able is back in play after one year at NC State
The coaching change at NC State played a part in Able's decision, though his top priority is testing the NBA waters before sorting out his college options. Wolfpack HC Will Wade left for LSU last month, and Justin Gainey took over in Raleigh. A return to NC State remains possible, but the combination of transfer portal entry and draft testing gives Able a wide-open offseason after just one college season.
Able originally committed to Jim Larranaga and the Hurricanes in August 2024. He later signed with Miami, then reopened his recruitment after Larranaga stepped down. Coming out of Sagemont Prep (Fort Lauderdale, Fla), Able was ranked No. 28 in the nation, No. 6 among SG, and No. 9 in Florida (per 247Sports). The call of his hometown team, which just went 26-9, might be compelling to Able.
In his freshman season, Able averaged 8.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 0.9 assists in 34 games for NC State while shooting 41.6% from the field and 35.5% from 3-point range. He scored in double figures in four of his first five games, then closed the year by scoring in double digits in his final three ACC games.
Able scored a then season-best 17 points in NC State's one-point loss to Miami on Feb. 14, and topped that three days later with 19 points in an 82-58 win over North Carolina.
