The Jets spent Saturday afternoon adding another piece to their offensive line pipeline, trading up in the sixth round to take Miami guard Anez Cooper at No. 188 overall.

The Jets moved up with Seattle to land the pick, sending away No. 199 in the sixth round and No. 242 in the seventh to get No. 188. It was the fourth trade Darren Mougey made during this draft, another sign the Jets were willing to be active when they saw a player they wanted.

New York has added Texas Tech edge rusher David Bailey, Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq, Indiana wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr., Indiana corner D'Angelo Ponds, Florida State defensive tackle Darrell Jackson Jr. and Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik, in addition to Cooper.

Cooper arrives in the NFL with a lot of college mileage. He played 52 games at Miami and was on the field for all 16 games in 2025, holding down right guard for a Hurricanes team that reached the national championship game. He logged 816 snaps last season, didn't allow a sack, only allowed two hits on the QB and surrendered just eight total pressures. He also earned second-team All-ACC recognition.

Cooper broke into Miami's lineup as a true freshman in 2022, then became a full-time starter in 2023 and never let go of the job. By the end of his career — after some initial weight issues when he first arrived to Coral Gables — he had turned himself into one of the most dependable pieces on the Hurricanes' line. Cooper measures in at 6-foot-6 and 350 pounds.

The combination of size and experience is what got Cooper drafted, and those traits are what will determine if he can carve out a role in the NFL.
