Kevin Thomas has not been publicly linked back to Miami yet, but he is absolutely the kind of recruit the Hurricanes should keep an eye on now that he is reopening things. The four-star 2026 small forward requested the release from his national letter of intent from LSU and will reopen his recruitment after the request was granted.

Thomas is reassessing his options because LSU parted ways with HC Matt McMahon and hired Will Wade. Thomas' original commitment to LSU was built around the staff that recruited him.

Miami was one of the four finalists before he chose the Tigers in October. His top four was Auburn, Florida State, LSU and Miami. Thomas took an official visit to Coral Gables on Sept. 27 after earlier official visits to Florida State on Aug. 29 and LSU on Sept. 19. Auburn was also part of that visit run.

Kevin Thomas is a name worth watching again for Miami

Thomas is a South Florida prospect, Miami already got him on campus for an official visit, and Jai Lucas has made it clear that he wants top local talent to feel like home is still an option in Coral Gables.

The Rivals' Industry Ranking places Thomas No. 91 overall, No. 35 among small forwards and No. 14 in Florida. ESPN has him 73rd in the ESPN 100. Thomas put up 15.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.1 steals per game this past season at Sagemont Prep. He also knocked down 60 three-pointers as a senior.

Miami has not publicly re-entered the recruiting picture just yet. But, it would be surprising if the Hurricanes did not at least explore it behind the scenes. Thomas already had Miami in his final four, took an official visit and now finds himself back on the market late in the process. It just makes too much sense.
