The Hayden Lowe news is concerning, but everyone around the Miami Hurricanes is staying quiet for now with the assumption that Mario Cristobal will clear the air.
Lowe, the Hurricanes' only five-star recruit in the 2025 class, did not play last season after Mario Cristobal said the edge rusher had an injury that was worse than originally believed. But the redshirt freshman was expected to work his way into the rotation this year. Now, there are big questions wondering if he will even be on Miami's roster this season.

The rumors are flying fast, but Cristobal will hopefully provide some facts the next time he meets with the media and is asked about it. Miami begins training camp Tuesday and is currently in the middle of its media day.
Hayden Lowe's status with Miami should be addressed
Lowe was one of the top recruits in the 2025 class. The Southern California recruit was ranked in the top-20 among national prospects and one of the five best players at this position. He had a great spring camp in 2025 and was expected to contribute before injuries kept him off the field. Lowe was away from camp this past spring with personal issues.

If there was a position for a young player to emerge, it's at edge rusher. The Hurricanes saw Rueben Bain and Akheem Mesidor selected in the first round of the NFL Draft this past April and are in need of someone to step up on the opposite side of Damon Wilson II.
Armondo Blount and Marquise Lightfoot are expected to be the names battling for that spot on the left side, but Lowe was so dynamic in his first spring on campus that it was expected he was also going to be in the mix.Â
Miami added three more projected edge rushers in the 2026 class as the staff works to build more young depth at the position. But it's unlikely that any of the three — Asharri Charles, DeAnthony Lafayette or Jordan Campbell — will be able to provide immediate help.Â

Miami will already enter camp without one 2026 recruit
The Lowe saga might not get an immediate answer or one that we like. However, we do know that freshman defensive back Jontavius Wyman will not be with the program this year after announcing he plans to sit out the season.

Does this mean that Wyman is done with the Hurricanes? It certainly appears as if that's a possibility. The borderline four-star recruit did say he'd be back, but he did not say that he would be back at Miami.Â
Unlike edge rusher, Miami has very few questions in the secondary and an abundance of talent, both young and experienced, not to mention the incoming players this season and the highly-touted group expected to come in with the 2027 class. It's possible that Wyman is simply a victim of the numbers game.Â
