Hurricanes in the running for local 4-star defensive back who is a Miami legacy

Miami is in the hunt for another South Florida defensive back, with Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas cornerback Jaden Carey trimming his recruitment to a stacked group that includes the Hurricanes.

Carey's current group includes Ohio State, Florida, Auburn, Notre Dame, Miami, Oregon and Ole Miss. Carey is listed at 6-foot and 165 pounds and plays for one of the most consistent winners in the country.

On3 has him as a four-star prospect in the 2027 class and ranks him No. 377 nationally, No. 38 at cornerback and No. 38 in Florida.

St. Thomas Aquinas capped the 2025 season with a state title game shutout of Lakeland, and Carey came away with an interception in the win.

Carey is a Miami legacy and has had multiple unofficial visits to Coral Gables, including trips in late August and September of 2025. His father is Marcus Dave Carey, a former Miami defensive back who played for the Hurricanes from 1989 to 1991 and won two national championships at UM.

According to On3, Miami is also listed as the top prediction team in its current forecasting, with defensive backs coaches Will Harris and Zac Etheridge noted as the key recruiters.
