Mark Fletcher Jr. was asked this week why high school prospects should consider the Hurricanes, and the senior running back kept it direct.

"If you're a dawg, you gonna come to Miami," Fletcher said. "And I'm just gonna leave it at that. If you're not a dawg, God bless you."

Mark Fletcher makes his recruiting pitch

The response came during a media availability in which Sun Sentinel reporter Adam Lichtenstein posed the question as Miami prepares to host Florida State on Saturday night. Several top recruits are expected on campus for the rivalry game.

Fletcher's words fit the image he has carried since arriving from Plantation American Heritage as a four-star prospect in the 2023 class.

He flipped from an Ohio State commitment late in the process to stay home, citing a desire to help rebuild the program under Mario Cristobal. He has since become one of the most productive backs in school history.

In four games this season, Fletcher has 307 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 52 carries, averaging 5.9 yards per attempt. He missed the Central Michigan game with an upper-body issue but returned for the 41-13 win at Clemson, where he ran for 77 yards and two scores.

For his career, he has rushed for more than 2,600 yards and 31 touchdowns. He ranked near the top of Miami's all-time lists in several categories entering the year after rushing for 1,192 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2025 while helping the Hurricanes reach the College Football Playoff national championship game.

When Fletcher announced he would return for his senior season last December rather than enter the NFL draft, he cited his love for the team and the opportunity to spend more time with teammates.

Cristobal has also repeatedly called him the heart and soul of the program, so these words are perfect for one of the biggest recruiting weekends of the season.

Looking ahead

The 2026 RB room is led by Fletcher, but it also includes true freshman Javian Mallory, who has 289 yards on 39 carries (7.4 yards per attempt). Mallory, a four-star from West Boca Raton, has stepped into a larger role after CharMar Brown's season-ending injury and has shown he can handle significant snaps behind Fletcher.

The group also features returners Girard Pringle Jr., Jordan Lyle and Chris Wheatley-Humphrey.

Miami has already secured a high-upside addition for 2027 in four-star running back Ty Keys from Poplarville, Mississippi. Keys ranks as a top-200 prospect nationally and among the top 15 running backs in the class.

He committed to the Hurricanes in May over Ole Miss and Florida State after a junior season in which he rushed for 3,285 yards and 45 touchdowns on 301 carries. Keys is expected to visit for the Florida State game.
