Less than a year ago, Miami head coach Mario Cristobal brought in the No. 5 transfer portal class in the nation, headlined by the Hurricanes' starting quarterback Carson Beck.
Now, Cristobal and the Canes may be primed to have a repeat performance as the portal draws closer on the horizon, and a few top candidates are looking to switch up their programs.
With reports (and denials) flying around current Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt and decommitments like Nebraska's current QB Dylan Raiola's younger brother Dayton decommitting from the Cornhuskers, the rumor mill is in full swing.
Could Miami poach a top QB in 2026?
With Leavitt entering the portal and signing with the Virginia Tech Hokies seemingly simultaneously, there is always room for a powerhouse program like the Canes to step in and make him consider their program instead.
UPDATE: Just moments after entering the portal, Sam Leavitt inked an $8 million deal with Virginia Tech to play for James Franklin, per multiple reports.

The young Raiola, a top-100 quarterback in the class of 2026, committed to the Huskers in September of last year. On Sunday, he decommitted from his older brother's team and reopened his recruitment, leaving room for Miami to stick its foot in the door.

So, as Beck's eligibility runs up and the Hurricanes are looking for their next transfer portal target or blue-chip recruit, the pool is already filled to the brim with guys who could fit their checklist to a tee.
Officially, the 2026 transfer portal doesn't open until January 2, so Leavitt's moves in the middle of the season have been far from above board. The portal closes just 14 days later on January 16, giving players just 15 days to officially decide if they want to leave their current team or not.
However, this shortened window hasn't slowed athletes down from sharing that they plan to enter the transfer portal this winter, many announcing their intent well ahead of time.
