Not long after the Notre Dame Fighting Irish decided to take their ball and go home, the Miami Hurricanes improved to 1-0 in the College Football Playoff. No, it was not a pretty game for the Canes, but a win is a win is a win! They went into College Station and came out with a hard-fought 10-3 victory over the Texas A&M Aggies. Miami will now face the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Cotton Bowl.
While celebrating their biggest win as a program in years, many Miami players quickly remembered how Notre Dame and their star running back Jeremiyah Love reacted to being left out of the playoff. Love has declared for the 2026 NFL Draft, while Miami marches on. Never ones to be humble, Miami let Love and Notre Dame definitely have it in their postgame celebrations. To the victors go the spoils!
Here is the message some Miami players had for Love and the Fighting Irish after their big playoff win.

This is just par for the course when your team wins the Notre Dame Bowl at spacious Kyle Field to advance to the national quarterfinals in the College Football Playoff. Miami and Texas A&M were the two teams who beat Notre Dame this season. The Hurricanes may have lost to Louisville and SMU during ACC play, but the Hurricanes handed both the Fighting Irish and the Aggies crucial defeats.
Let's now unpack what needs to happen for Miami to advance to the Fiesta Bowl past Ohio State.

Look. There is no way around it. No. 10 Miami will be up against it vs. No. 2 Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl on New Year's Eve. FanDuel Sportsbook has the Buckeyes laying 9.5 points ahead of their neutral-site affair in Arlington. Ohio State is not only well-rested but has something to play for. They just saw their perfect season come to an end in the Big Ten Championship vs. the Indiana Hoosiers.
Even though the line has dropped a point from its opening at 10.5, Miami will still be a multi-score underdog vs. Ohio State. The Hurricanes also need to score more than 10 points to have even a chance at upsetting the Buckeyes. That being said, Miami does have the talent to compete with a team like Ohio State. It is why the Hurricanes are one of a few teams who could win the national title.
Overall, it is so great to see a Miami team be a major factor in the postseason once again. Yes, Texas A&M may have been artificially inflated by its weak SEC schedule, but the fact of the matter is this: Miami went into a hostile environment and got a win few people were expecting. The best part in all of this is Mario Cristobal knows his team has a ton of things to clean up heading into the Cotton Bowl.
For now, Miami proved to Notre Dame that it absolutely belonged in the playoff over the Fighting Irish.
