With the Miami football team fighting for its College Football Playoff life, the last thing this team needs is to deal with a serious injury for a key playmaker. Unfortunately, that's the case when it comes to standout cornerback Keionte Scott.

Miami Hurricanes hold slim ACC titles hopes after 2 devastating losses

On Thursday night, CBS insider Matt Zenitz has reported that Scott is dealing with a lower extremity injury, which he suffered in Miami's lopsided win against Syracuse. Because of this, Scott won't be in action this weekend vs. NC State. On top of that, Zenitz's sources are telling him that Scott's status for the rest of the season is a bit up in the air. Obviously, this is a big-time concern moving forward for Mario Cristobal and his staff.

Keionte Scott is dealing with a serious injury and he's been ruled out for the NC State game

Last week against Syracuse, the Miami defense was fantastic, only giving up 10 points. Throughout the season, Scott, a 6-0, 190-pounder has been sensational for defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman, which has been great to see.

On the season, the stud defensive back has posted 43 total tackles, three sacks, one forced fumble and one interception. That interception was a brilliant one, as he recorded it against the Orange and he took it back to the house for six. It came at a huge time for the Canes too.

Scott has been so good for Miami this season, he actually holds a 90.5 grade from Pro Football Focus, which is No. 1 in the country for a cornerback. Because of his brilliant play this fall, Scott has no question seen his NFL Draft stock rise.

He indeed has been fun to watch, but now this injury news has come at a terrible time for Miami. Scott is for sure missing Saturday's game against NC State per Zenitz, but everyone will be wondering if he'll be able to play next weekend against Virginia Tech or not. His status for the regular-season finale vs. Pitt, a must-win game as well, is unknown too. His health will of course be something to follow closely moving forward.
