Miami Hurricanes hold slim ACC title hopes after two devastating losses

Hurricanes fans must still remain optimistic despite ACC hopes being derailed in recent weeks.

Miami Hurricanes fans should not "throw in the towel" as of yet. Although the Hurricanes two losses of the season just happen to be against ACC competition, the Hurricanes still have an outside chance of participating in the ACC title game. First, the Canes must do their part and win their last three remaining games.

Frankly, there is not any margin for error if the Miami Hurricanes would like to redeem themselves from devastating losses that has set the program back out of the top ten in AP Polls. Last weekend, the Hurricanes played a dominant contest against the Syracuse Orange. Sure, there are a plethora of teams ahead of the Canes with one loss, but what I have learned over the years regarding the ACC Conference is "expect the unexpected."

There could be major upsets for the top teams in the Atlantic Coastal Conference. Georgia Tech is currently the leader of the conference with four other teams with one loss waiting for the Yellow Jackets to stumble. It is difficult to be the "front-runner" because there are many programs aiming to upset the "top dog." The door to the Hurricanes slim hopes of participating in their initial ACC title game slightly opened when the Louisville Cardinals lost against the California Golden Bears this past weekend.

If, and I mean a "big if" the top teams in the ACC can suffer at least one defeat, the Miami Hurricanes could reposition themselves into the ACC mix. After commencing the season with key victories, the Hurricanes football program seemed like a "lock" to enter into the ACC title game.

What most critics are currently not considering is the fact that the Miami Hurricanes have played well against top-level competition all season. The Hurricanes argument and resume of becoming a participant in the ACC title game would become valid if the top tier teams have one more game in which they falter. Stanger things have happened, and no one can perfectly predict how the unpredictable and wacky teams of the ACC will fare by season's end.
